About Our Client

Our client is a community-focused public-sector organization serving the Colorado Springs area. The Finance Department partners closely with departments and organizational leaders to support accurate financial operations, strong internal controls, and effective stewardship of organizational resources.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant for a 3–6 month contract assignment. Reporting to the Controller, this position will provide hands-on accounting and operational support across accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash processing, general ledger reconciliations, month-end close, and other financial activities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who can quickly step into a busy finance environment, work independently, and manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process cash receipts, deposits, and related accounting transactions.
  • Prepare and maintain cash receipt reports and verify cash logs for accuracy.
  • Support accounts receivable and cash-handling processes and best practices.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of cash management procedures and controls.
  • Maintain petty cash activity.
  • Provide support to the accounts payable function to help ensure accurate and timely vendor payments.
  • Submit payments to the bank and reconcile accounts payable activity.
  • Assist with month-end close and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Support preparation of audit schedules.
  • Maintain and manage employee reimbursement processes within the ERP system.
  • Assist with employee travel, reimbursements, per diem requests, and related records.
  • Support special projects and collaborate with departments throughout the organization.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or 4+ years of relevant accounting experience in lieu of education
  • Experience working with ERP/accounting systems.
  • Previous experience in a government, public-sector, or nonprofit environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong Excel and general Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal upfront guidance.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Professional communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial information with discretion.
